Requirements for a pre-purchase examination:

(Please confirm all with vendor in advance of examination)

The passport must be present at time of examination. To confirm identification of the horse and for the vetting certificate.

A hard, flat, even surface must be available to walk and trot horse in straight line (a road can be used if deemed safe to do so).

A large hard, flat, even surface must be available to trot or lunge the horse in a hard circle.  This is important - Please confirm with vendor in advance this is available.

A suitable sandschool or arena must be available for the horse to be ridden in a five stage examination.

A suitably competent rider (preferably the purchaser) must be available to ride the horse at the time of examination in a five stage. Please discuss with vet in advance if horse not suitable for riding for any reason.

It is advisable for the purchaser to request a copy of the full veterinary history from the vendors vets, to be sent to us, prior to the examination.  This may save you the price of a vetting, and the hassle of future discoveries if issues have been flagged previously.

Please make the vet aware if the seller is also a client of the Kingsfield Equine Veterinary Services.

The purchaser is encouraged to be present at the time of vetting, but this is not essential, as all findings will be discussed over the phone after the examination, and a written report will be provided soon after examination.

If you have not actually seen the horse you are purchasing, please discuss with vet before examination, as photos and wider opinions can be provided at a small further cost.

Any other questions, please contact us.
